About Stephanie

All work is designed and made by me at my workshop in South Devon, UK. Living and working on the Southern edge of Dartmoor is a privilege - just looking out of the workshop window is an inspiration in itself. For example, four bird feeders hang directly outside the door for visiting birds, and their plumage has recently inspired a new collection of work. Similarly, the view of Dartmoor from the workshop has also inspired a colour range called 'Midnight' which took its influence from the late autumn moorland scenery.
Colour is the main focus and inspiration for new designs, ideas for which may come at any time, and anywhere. For example, a dazzling shop window display which caught my eye on a recent visit to Norway was the starting point behind the colour range 'Voss'. A group of people in a city café, or a floral display with breathtaking natural colour combinations could equally fire my imagination. I do not seek to copy what I see, rather to use it as a starting point which then evolves into a new design.
Sometimes a range will simply be the result of creative 'play' and experimentation with the raw materials which are to hand in the workshop. This is a process which I have always felt to be exciting, and which probably has its roots in my training as a sculptor. Often the freshest work can result from a session of experimentation, when I get ideas from seeing the vibrancy of colours as they interact one against the other.
